In 1979, he worked as an RPG II programmer on an IBM System/3 mainframe and Series I computer at Hospital Computing Systems located in South Jersey. Before joining the University of Mount Olive in 2004, he also co-owned a successful hotel franchise and restaurant in the hospitality industry. He currently maintains an active North Carolina Real Estate Broker’s license and stays informed on trends in business and real estate.
Academically, Professor Reimers has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and delivered professional presentations focused on the value of IT certifications and the creation of student-centered, web-based learning tutorials. In March, he along with his co-author, Dr. David Anderson, presented his paper titled “POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION CYBER SECURITY: THE CHALLENGE OF INCORPORATING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ” at the INTED (International Education) Conference.
His teaching philosophy emphasizes student engagement through experiential learning. He regularly involves students in community projects, real-world initiatives, and professional presentations. He is also very proud of founding and administering with the help of Dr. Watson, the Cybersecurity and Gaming League where students compete in regional and national cybersecurity competitions!
Professor Reimers has played a key role in developing the cybersecurity curriculum at the University of Mount Olive, with a strong emphasis on industry certifications. A few years ago, he designed a capstone course for American Military University’s Cybersecurity Ph.D. program.
